Health Equity and Disparity Awareness

This training provides participants with an overview of disparities and inequities that exist in the healthcare industry, as well as in health-related laws and priorities within our society. Health equity initiatives work to provide access to healthy living options and healthcare to all members of our communities. Participants will discuss how to promote health equity by advocating for the removal of systemic barriers, creating health access and opportunities for marginalized and disadvantaged populations, and addressing discrimination and harassment issues in the healthcare industry.

Course Objectives:

• Identifying types of health inequities and disparities
• Identifying the link between healthcare access and common medical issues and various identity groups (i.e., BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled)
• Exploring the impact of wicked health problems
• Understanding the role of systemic racism, sexism, queerism, etc. in society and the way we perceive healthcare
• What is health equity and why it is important?
• Advocating for the removal of systemic barriers in healthcare and healthy living opportunities
• Creating healthcare access and opportunities for marginalized and disadvantaged communities
• Bias, discrimination, and harassment against marginalized communities in the healthcare industry
• Mental health wellness and stigma in the medical community
• Understand the importance of trauma-informed care
